This 5-day project-based math resource applies math concepts in a real-world scenario to teach students about comparing fractions and explaining equivalent fractions. In this 5-day unit, students will use their knowledge of fractions to open a plan a pizza party. This math project is engaging and authentic. Plus, it’s available as both a digital and print resource.
This project-based math resource is aligned with the following 3rd Grade Math Common Core State Standards:
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3
Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size. - CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3a
Understand two fractions as equivalent if they have the same relative size compared to 1 whole. - CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3b
Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions. Explain why the fractions are equivalent. - CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3d
Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Understand that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify conclusions.
This resource is available in both Printable & Digital Google Slides versions.
