This 5-day read-aloud unit focuses on teaching about the main idea of multi-paragraph texts through the use of the picture book Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport. You will need a copy of this book for use throughout the unit.
The unit includes five 35-minute lessons as outlined on the sample pacing calendar. This is just a suggested format and can be adapted to fit your instructional format and students’ needs.
The instructions for each day’s lesson are followed by the corresponding student pages that tie in with each of the daily lessons. Detailed instructions for these pages are included within the daily lesson plans.
This unit contains pieces for an interactive notebook. However, if you do not use interactive notebooks, you can use the pages as printables instead.
