Description

This 5-day project-based math resource applies math concepts in a real-world scenario to teach students about multi-digit addition and subtraction. In this 5-day unit, students will apply addition and subtraction concepts to plan a family vacation. This adding and subtracting math project is engaging and authentic. Plus, it’s available as both a digital and print resource.

 

This project-based math resource covers concepts of fraction multiplication and is aligned with the following 4th Grade Math Common Core State Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.B.4

  • Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.

  • Choose Dining Options: Using addition and subtraction concepts, students will determine the dining option that best meets their vacation needs.
  • Choose Activities: Using addition and subtraction concepts, students will choose activities for their family vacation and factor in activity discounts in their decision making process.
  • Adjust Budget: After finishing their vacation selections, students will determine whether they need to adjust their vacation budget or not.
  • Buy Souvenirs: Using addition and subtraction concepts, students will choose souvenirs for purchase with their leftover vacation money.
  • Wrap Up: Students will write up their final family vacation plan and explain their decisions.
